DEAD SPACE CHAMBER MUSIC are a gothic / experimental / doom group from Bristol, UK. They reinterpret historical material, taking forms and melodies that are hundreds of years old and shape-shifting them into new and varied contemporary works.
Incorporating improvisation and use of ‘found sounds’, and with vocals spanning medieval Middle English, Latin and Welsh, they blend elements of dark ambient, post-industrial, avant-classical, sacred chant and dark-folk in their powerful and atmospheric music.
DSCM are earning increasing acclaim for their compelling and ceremonial live shows, completing their first UK headliner tour in April 2025 with Futures We Lost (cinematic / industrial soundscapes, Manchester).
They have previously toured and collaborated with internationally acclaimed cellist Jo Quail and with hackedepicciotto (Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten & interdisciplinary artist Danielle de Picciotto). They have shared bills with The Danse Society, Cold in Berlin, Nero Kane (IT), Maud the Moth, Hawthonn, Kariti (IT/RUS), Khost (Cold Spring), Deep Cross (USA), Some Became Hollow Tubes (members of thisquietarmy & Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Kate Arnold, Seaming To, Bonnacons of Doom, Nocturnal Emissions and Rose McDowell amongst others.
They are currently working on their 3rd album.
“The Black Hours is deeply storied and gloriously doomy…a mix of beauty and heaviness, ancient and new” – The Quietus
Live at the Cemetery Chapel, York, review in Aural Aggravation: “Their innovative approach to the creation of sound is something to behold…this is dramatic, and this is exciting, unexpectedly so. Their sound and performance is bold and theatrical. The focus of the three musicians was absolute… the effect is nothing short of stunning, making for an almost overwhelming finale to a night of most remarkable music”
“The crowd was transfixed by the splendour unravelling on the stage…what followed was even more wonderment. They create something so beautiful from something so simple…soul-stirring and tender melodies fused magically with doom laden rhythms that showcased a different approach to music and what is possible” – The Sleeping Shaman, April 2025
